Saxafras is a collaboration between Gordon Belsher and his son-in-law Todd MacLean, along with Gordon’s daughter (and Todd’s wife) Savannah Belsher-MacLean on vocals. Their self titled CD “Saxafras” includes chestnuts like ‘Summertime’, ‘Blue Skies’,  and ‘Fly Me to the Moon’, as well as upbeat versions of pop hits like ‘Baker Street’ and Lennie Gallant’s ‘Open Window’.  For a twist on traditional fiddle tunes, you have to hear Todd’s velvet saxophone renditions of ‘Neil Gow’s Lament’ and ‘Ashokan Farewell’.  Savannah’s favourite quirky songs from modern writers Jill Sobule, Karen Savoca, and a duo called ‘The Weepies’ are  other highlights.  Todd and Savannah collaborate on a beautiful version of Woody Guthrie’s ‘Birds & Ships’ for which they penned a second verse.

This quirky collection garnered 2007 PEI Music Award nominations for "New Artist" and "Folk Recording".
